Roughness/ 3D Micro-Topography
The roughness of a material surface is becoming an increasingly important parameter for defining machining process on the one hand, and for predicting wear and frictional properties on the other.
The i-Dex ta table-top measuring system with integrated StraDex a sensor affords the desired data extremely fast because all the important data algorithms are processed in the sensor itself. In order to establish the absolute accuracy down into the sub-nm range, a comparative study has been performed for the first time with AFM (“Atomic Force Microscopy”). The typical roughness parameters Ra/Rq/Rz can be read off directly (see, e.g., DIN 4728). The formerly used roughnesses of a 1D profile are being increasing replaced by more robust 2D measurements which give the load factor in the parameters (ISO 25178).
