Thin film thickness
Coatings are becoming progressively thinner owing to the high prices of raw materials. The extremely thin layers (e.g. adhesive layers), generally measuring less than 1 µm, then have to be applied very homogeneously and in exactly the right thickness. The substrate material can range from highly transparent (e.g. glass) to highly reflective (e.g. aluminium).
Mounted on a traverse in a production environment, a StraDex t sensor is able to measure both wet and dry layers. The sensor can also be placed in a specially designed housing for applications in explosion protected areas. Two-dimensional offline studies of a coated material are feasible with this sensor installed in a SemDex inspection system.
