Thin film thickness
Coatings on medical packaging have to meet stringent demands with regard to feel, environmental impact, and functionality. The extremely thin layers (e.g. functional layers), which often measure less that 1 µm, must be applied very homogeneously and in exactly the right thickness. The substrate material can range from transparent (e.g. plastic pouches) to highly reflective (e.g. aluminium).
In a production environment such layers can be measured by a StraDex t sensor mounted on a traverse. Two-dimensional offline studies of a coated material can be performed with this sensor installed in a SemDex inspection system.
